Lotte ON to Hold 'Jeju Gamgyul Day' Until the 21st
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Lotte On will hold 'Jeju Tangerine Day' from the 19th to the 21st in collaboration with Jeju Nonghyup Cooperative Joint Business Corporation.
This event was planned to help Jeju tangerine farmers who are struggling with sales due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). To this end, 80 tons of Jeju tangerines will be sold at a 10% discount, along with a 1+1 offer. Shipping is free when purchasing event products.
The representative products are ‘Jeju Nonghyup Gyulrojangsaeng Open-field Tangerines 4.5kg (Royal grade)’ and ‘Jeju Nonghyup Gyulrojangsaeng 4.5kg (Medium grade).’ The prices, based on the maximum benefit price, are 10,350 KRW and 8,010 KRW respectively.
Jeju tangerine farmers are facing difficulties in sales despite the open-field tangerines being in season, due to sluggish consumption caused by COVID-19. In particular, the operating hours of large supermarkets, which were the main sales channels for tangerines, have been reduced to 9 PM due to the escalation of social distancing measures, impacting tangerine sales.
Additionally, the decline in tangerine prices is also acting as a negative factor for Jeju tangerine farmers. On the 11th, the price of 5kg (standard grade) open-field tangerines at the Garak-dong Agricultural and Marine Products Wholesale Market in Seoul was about 30% lower than the average December price in previous years.
