29 COVID-19 Cases in Jeonbuk Over Two Days... 11 Infected in Cluster at Iksan Church
Number of Infected at Gimje Ganaan Nursing Home Rises by 2 to 73... Cumulative Confirmed Cases in Province Reach 625
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The Jeonbuk Provincial Health Authorities announced that from the 16th to 3 p.m. on the 17th, 29 additional people tested positive for the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). The number of confirmed cases by date was 19 on the 16th and 10 on the 17th.
At Yeollinmun Church in Namjung-dong, Iksan City, 11 people tested positive since the 15th. It was confirmed that they had attended a revival meeting held at A Prayer Center in Gyeongsan City, Gyeongbuk Province, either individually or as a group from the 7th to the 11th.
Notably, the first confirmed case at this church, patient number 593 in Jeonbuk, an octogenarian, tested positive late in the afternoon on the 15th and passed away the next day. This is the fourth COVID-19 related death case in the province. The patient, who was in terminal cancer, was confirmed positive in a test conducted before hospitalization.
Jeonbuk Province conducted mass testing on 27 church members and found that 10 tested positive while the remaining 16 tested negative. The health authorities identified that a person affiliated with the A Prayer Center in Gyeongsan recently visited Yeollinmun Church to deliver a sermon and are currently conducting an epidemiological investigation.
Regarding the Ghanaan Nursing Home in Hwangsan-myeon, Gimje City, one staff member and one resident tested positive on the 17th, increasing the total confirmed cases to 73. At Saesomang Church in Deokjin-gu, Jeonju City, and Hyundai Motor Company’s Jeonju Plant, confirmed cases were detected during pre-release tests from self-quarantine, bringing the cumulative confirmed cases to 28 and 25 respectively. As a result, the total number of confirmed cases in the province has risen to 625.
