From the 19th to the 27th, during the Merry K-MAS! 2020 Christmas Market, a non-face-to-face and online consumption promotion event for small business products, a special campaign will be carried out to deliver thank-you gifts to medical staff who have devoted themselves to overcoming COVID-19.
They plan to express gratitude by delivering 50 ‘Santa Masks’ each to 66 COVID-19 screening clinics in Seoul, the region with the highest number of cases nationwide.
In particular, among the screening clinics in Seoul, two districts (Gangseo, Songpa) and four screening clinics (Gangseo-gu and Songpa-gu Public Health Centers, Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital, and Seoul Asan Hospital), which handled a higher number of tests, will also receive 100 selected Christmas gift products chosen by the public, including handmade herbal medicine.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups has partnered with the Salvation Army Charity Pot Headquarters to spread the ‘Santa Mask Challenge’ nationwide. At six Salvation Army charity pot fundraising locations with high foot traffic such as Seoul Station, Samsung Station, and Myeongdong, a total of 4,000 Santa Masks will be provided, and citizens who donate money to the Salvation Army charity pots will receive a ‘Santa Mask’ as a gift through this campaign.
Along with this, Minister Park Young-sun and others will transform into Santa Claus themselves to deliver comfort to small business owners struggling due to COVID-19 through the ‘Secret Santa’ campaign. On Christmas Eve, they plan to surprise visit cafes, restaurants, and craft shops located in Samcheong-dong with the delivery robot ‘Dilly’ to offer consolation and encouragement.
Furthermore, to mark the end of COVID-19 and to wish for a ‘New Spring’ (建春), Gyeongbokgung’s Geonchunmun Gate (建春門) will be decorated with golden lights, and Samcheong-ro will be reborn as ‘the most beautiful Christmas street in the world.’ In addition to Samcheong-ro, ‘streets of light’ will be created in areas such as Sinchon Yonsei-ro and Gangnam Tipstown, featuring beautiful and warm Christmas light displays. These can be enjoyed non-face-to-face and online through TV and YouTube without visiting the sites in person.
The viral video ‘Order Bell’ and the ‘Good Consumption’ TV campaign, released to promote non-face-to-face and online consumption of small business products, are also gaining popularity. The Ministry of SMEs and Startups explained that enthusiasm for participation in the ‘2020 Christmas Market’ is rising, with views approaching 100,000 within two days on platforms such as YouTube and Instagram.
