View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Goyang City in Gyeonggi Province will officially implement the 'Temporary Child Support Assistance Program' starting January next year for families struggling due to non-receipt of child support payments.
On the 17th, Goyang City stated, "Since May this year, we have been preparing a system to temporarily support child support creditors who are at risk of having their child's upbringing environment endangered," adding, "In August, we became the first local government nationwide to enact the 'Goyang City Temporary Child Support Assistance Ordinance.'"
The support targets child support creditors who have not received child support payments from child support debtors (non-custodial parents) and have resided in Goyang City for more than one year with an income at or below 75% of the median income.
This applies to cases where, despite a confirmed decision under various child support orders according to the Family Litigation Act (▲direct payment order ▲lump-sum payment order ▲security provision order ▲performance order), child support payments have not been received.
After eligibility screening and final selection as a support recipient, temporary child support of 200,000 KRW per month per minor child (under 19 years old) can be provided for up to 9 months.
The period for receiving support payments is until the month before the child reaches the age of majority (19 years old) under civil law. Applications for support can be submitted by visiting the Women's and Family Division at Goyang City Hall with the application form and required documents.
