Songpa-gu Ranked No.1 in Comprehensive 'Resident Healthcare'... 5 Consecutive Years of Awards
Selected as the Best Institution in the Health Promotion Project Evaluation Led by the Ministry of Health and Welfare...Highly Rated for Customized Health Management Services by Target Group
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) announced on the 17th that it was selected as the best institution in the comprehensive category of the Community Integrated Health Promotion Project at the ‘12th Local Government Health Promotion Project Evaluation’ hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
With this selection, the district has achieved the honor for five consecutive years since 2015.
Local governments nationwide are discovering and promoting various health promotion projects such as prevention of alcohol-related harm, obesity prevention management, atopy and asthma prevention management, and community-based rehabilitation to ensure healthy lives for residents.
In response, the Ministry of Health and Welfare evaluates the performance of the previous year’s projects at the end of each year and selects and awards the best and excellent institutions among cities, counties, and districts nationwide.
The district was highly evaluated for its efforts to provide tailored health management for vulnerable groups as well as promoting healthy living practices and preventing chronic diseases suited to local characteristics.
In particular, as the largest autonomous district in Seoul with a population of 670,000, the district planned projects considering the regional characteristics where various age groups are evenly distributed.
The project divided the target participants into three categories to provide integrated customized health management services.
▲ For pregnant women and infants, the project ‘Caring for Our Children’s Future for Health Gathering’ was promoted, implementing public postpartum care center operations and establishing a breastfeeding excellence city network. ▲ For disease groups and high-risk groups, ‘Sharing Our Future for Health Behavior Improvement’ was carried out, expanding designated non-smoking areas, conducting alcohol consumption surveys, and promoting smoking cessation and moderation campaigns.
Also, ▲ for vulnerable groups, people with disabilities, and the elderly, ‘Protecting Our Neighborhood’s Future to Eliminate Health Disparities’ was conducted, including activities such as neighborhood health guardians and resident-participatory health clubs.
In 2019 alone, about 355,000 people participated in these projects, meaning that one out of every two Songpa-gu residents benefited from health management services.
With this award, the district will receive a commendation from the Minister of Health and Welfare along with a prize of 13 million won.
