[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) won the Grand Prize in the 'Resident Autonomy' category at the 19th National Resident Autonomy Expo held on the 11th.
The National Resident Autonomy Expo is a nationwide event hosted by the Open Society Citizens' Coalition, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and the Autonomy and Decentralization Committee. Since 2001, it has discovered and awarded excellent cases of resident autonomy (committee) meetings at the eup, myeon, and dong levels, contributing to creating an environment for revitalizing resident autonomy.
At this expo, out of 309 cases across five categories?resident autonomy, regional revitalization, learning communities, resident organization networks, and institutional policies?68 excellent cases were finally selected, with Sadang 2-dong winning the Grand Prize in the 'Resident Autonomy' category.
In particular, Sadang 2-dong received high praise for forming a unique resident autonomy culture distinguished from other local governments, including ▲establishing a public-private cooperation model focused on communication emphasizing direction over speed ▲online resident general meetings adapted to the COVID-19 situation ▲online village academy ▲and creating a lively and energetic village.
Additionally, on the 1st, Sadang 2-dong was selected as the top dong in the 'Resident Group' category for its non-face-to-face project implementation case responding to environmental changes due to COVID-19 at the '2020 Resident Autonomy Association Excellent Case Contest' hosted by Seoul City.
The Sadang 2-dong Resident Autonomy Association, composed of 43 autonomy committee members and 53 subcommittee members, launched in March last year and operates a total of seven subcommittees, including the Sharing Subcommittee, Saijoa Forestijoa Subcommittee, and Pungnyu 2-ga Subcommittee.
This year, various projects were promoted by each subcommittee, such as ▲Saimaeul Emotional Kok! Kok! ▲Saimaeul Senior Health Gymnastics ▲production of the neighborhood newsletter 'Sairo' ▲and production and installation of cigarette butt trash bins.
Choi Hwan-bong, Director of the Autonomy Administration Division, said, "This award is the result of the passion and efforts of residents who want to realize resident autonomy in daily life," adding, "We will continue to do our best to create a happy local community where residents think together about local issues and foster village development through expanding resident autonomy associations to all dongs."
