Lee Nak-yeon Holds Meeting with Financial Industry to Secure COVID-19 Hospital Beds, Urges "Relief of Interest Burden for Ordinary People"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] On the 16th, Lee Nak-yeon, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, held a video conference with officials from five financial institutions including Hana Bank, urging them to participate in alleviating the financial burden on ordinary households caused by the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) by easing interest burdens.
During the video conference held that afternoon, Lee said, "There are many people who are having a very hard time, including self-employed and small business owners. I ask you to ease the financial burden a little," expressing his appeal.

View original imageLee stated, "For landlords of buildings, there are parts of the rent that relate to bank loans taken out when constructing the buildings, and tenants also sometimes take bank loans to rent their shops," adding, "I would like to ask for the easing of financial burdens and interest burdens for such people."
He continued, "There are complaints that the gap between deposit interest rates and loan interest rates is too large," emphasizing, "I hope you will also pay attention to easing these interest rates." He then appealed, "I hope you will join in reducing the financial burden on ordinary households."

The five financial institutions participating in the meeting recently decided to provide a total of 721 rooms as temporary living treatment centers by utilizing training center facilities in response to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases. The day before, five large churches pledged to provide 890 rooms in training centers and prayer centers.
