KakaoTalk Wallet Service Experiences Errors from First Day "Currently Stabilized"
[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] Kakao launched the 'KakaoTalk Wallet' service, which allows users to store and manage identification cards and other documents, on the 16th. However, users experienced inconvenience due to errors occurring from the first day.
According to Kakao, errors occurred for some users from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the same day. The service is now mostly restored to normal.
On that day, when users tried to install the wallet service by clicking 'Create a safe and simple wallet' in the KakaoTalk More tab, an error message appeared, or even after creating the wallet, a 'Cannot retrieve' message was displayed. Additionally, iPhone (iOS) users were still unable to use the KakaoTalk Wallet.
A Kakao official explained, "The errors occurred due to a surge in traffic," and added, "The service is now back to normal." Regarding iPhone usage, the official said, "Due to Apple's procedural issues, it will be applied sequentially."
The KakaoTalk Wallet is a service that allows users to store and manage identification cards, certificates, and documents within KakaoTalk. Starting from January next year, it will gradually include ▲QR Check-in, an electronic entry log ▲Mobile driver's license verification service ▲National technical certificates issued by the Human Resources Development Service of Korea.

The KakaoTalk Wallet service is an ambitious project unveiled last month by co-CEOs Yeominsu and Josuyong at the 'If Kakao 2020' press conference. At that time, Co-CEO Jo stated, "We focused on the inconvenience of proving one's identity in daily life and came up with the concept of a 'digital ID card,'" adding, "Eventually, I think KakaoTalk could completely replace a physical wallet."
