Gokseong-gun's Volunteer Donation Policy Highlights "200 Won per Hour" Contribution
Just Volunteering, Yet Gaining Double Benefits with Donations Too
[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] On the 15th, Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it is implementing a policy of donating converted volunteer hours to encourage volunteer activities and a culture of donation.
The donation of converted volunteer hours means that the time civilians participate in volunteer work is converted into a monetary amount and donated to volunteer organizations. Gokseong-gun established an ordinance to support volunteer activities and has been donating converted amounts for volunteer hours since 2017.
To participate in the converted amount donation, one must be registered as a resident in Gokseong-gun and register on the Gokseong-gun 1365 Volunteer Portal. Additionally, individual volunteers must have volunteered for more than 50 hours, and groups must have volunteered for more than 250 hours. The conversion rate is 200 KRW per hour, and donations are made in the name of the individual or group who participated in the volunteer work.
This year, due to COVID-19 making face-to-face volunteer activities difficult, meeting the time criteria was not easy. However, two individual volunteers who have consistently continued volunteer work for their neighbors, along with three organizations?the Sharing Volunteer Society (President Choi Hyekyung), the Korea Life Improvement Gokseong-gun Federation (President Kim Geumja), and the Korea Freedom Federation Gokseong-gun Branch (President Seo Ho)?have been registered as donors of the converted amount.
As a result of their combined 2,751 hours of volunteer work, 550,200 KRW was donated to the Community Chest of Korea. More than the amount, it resonates deeply in the community as the fruit of their participation in volunteering for neighbors in need.
