[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyunjung] The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Ministry of Environment announced on the 14th that highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) of the H5N8 type was confirmed in wild birds in Seocheon, Chungnam (Geumgangho) and Anseong, Gyeonggi (Anseongcheon).
Following the confirmation of highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Ministry of Environment designated the antigen detection areas and surrounding migratory bird habitats as special AI management zones and are implementing strengthened quarantine measures.

An official from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs stated, "It is a very dangerous situation with continuous detection of highly pathogenic AI antigens in wild birds nationwide (27 cases since October 1)," and urged, "Poultry farmers should be vigilant against contamination sources entering through various routes such as vehicles, people, and wild birds, and thoroughly implement quarantine measures such as changing boots for each barn, prohibiting free-range farming, and establishing lime belts."
