"Son Lost Consciousness Due to School Violence Disguised as Sparring," Victim's Parent Posts Petition to Cheong
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-eun] A post has been uploaded on the Blue House National Petition board demanding severe punishment for perpetrators who left the petitioner’s son unconscious through school violence disguised as 'sparring.' According to the petition, the perpetrators had previously committed school violence but were let off without significant punishment.
On the 14th, a petition titled "Our son's life was ruined by cruel and terrifying school violence" was posted on the Blue House National Petition board. As of 7:30 a.m. on the 15th, just one day after posting, it had received over 76,000 signatures. It surpassed the preliminary agreement threshold of 100 signatures and was classified as a petition under review by administrators.
The petitioner introduced, "Our son is currently unconscious and lying in the intensive care unit due to school violence," and added, "Our child is a first-year student at OO High School."
They continued, "When I called because my son was not home, his voice was very dark and breathless, saying, 'A friend called me to talk. I’ll be home soon,'" and explained, "Later, one of the perpetrator students sent a text message to my daughter saying, 'Your brother got knocked out while sparring with me.'"
The petitioner said, "I called to confirm where my son was and asked the perpetrators about the situation, but they said he seemed to be sleeping. That’s nonsense," and appealed, "He is not an athlete and doesn’t know how to box. He is a timid and physically weak child. Could our son have been sparring?"
The petitioner explained that the violence took place inside a community sports facility within the apartment complex that was closed at the time. When they first saw their son, he was limp, unable to breathe steadily, and showed no pupil reaction to light. Later, a medical report confirmed pupil dilation and decreased pupil reflex. After waiting more than five hours, he underwent surgery, but the prognosis was poor, and they were told to observe his condition for two to three days.
The petitioner added, "So far, our son has been unconscious for 15 days in the ICU with diagnoses of traumatic subdural hemorrhage, tonic-clonic seizures, and fractures of four front teeth," and said, "Through police and prosecution investigations, we learned that the perpetrators claimed the violence was sparring."
They continued, "The perpetrators, realizing he was unconscious, did not call 119 (emergency services), but instead played around and joked with him while he was passed out. When he did not wake up for a long time, they poured water on him and dragged him across the cold floor," and said, "They missed the golden hour, and our son suffered severe brain damage. OO Province has no large hospital, so it takes more time to cross the bridge to get to one, but they didn’t even think to call 119. I just can’t understand why they did that."

Finally, the petitioner appealed, "This is not the first time for all the perpetrators. I heard there were other victims before my son, but those cases were settled without severe punishment through lawyers," and said, "Because they are minors, the punishment is light, so they think they will be released quickly without any guilt. Victims like my son will continue to increase. Please help so that no other victims like my child will appear."
