As of 6 PM Today, 582 New COVID-19 Cases Nationwide... 55 More Than Previous Day
As the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) rapidly spreads mainly in the Seoul metropolitan area, citizens are undergoing diagnostic tests at a temporary screening clinic set up at Seoul Station Plaza on the 14th. According to the quarantine authorities, Seoul city, and other local governments, from midnight to 6 p.m. on that day, 582 new confirmed cases were reported nationwide. This is 55 more than the 527 cases recorded at the same time the previous day.
Among the 582 cases in the interim tally by city and province, 375 cases (64.4%) were in the Seoul metropolitan area, and 207 cases (35.6%) were outside the metropolitan area. By region, the numbers were: Seoul 170, Gyeonggi 157, Ulsan 49, Incheon 48, Busan 40, Chungnam 30, Daejeon 19, Chungbuk 18, Gyeongnam 14, Daegu 10, Gyeongbuk 9, Gangwon and Jeonbuk 7 each, Gwangju 3, and Jeju 1. No additional cases were reported in Jeonnam and Sejong.
Since the tally closes at midnight, the number of new confirmed cases as of 0:00 on the 15th is expected to be at least in the mid-to-high 700s to 800s or higher. Despite the previous day being a holiday with fewer tests than on weekdays, the 527 cases reported by 6 p.m. increased to 718 by midnight.
The number of new confirmed cases recently surged, reaching over 1,000 for the first time the previous day (1,030 cases), but dropped back to the 700s within a day.
Regarding major infection cases, 22 additional cases were linked to Seongseok Church in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, bringing the cumulative total to 162. The cumulative confirmed cases related to the Jongno-gu restaurant 'Pagoda Town' - singing class and a nursing home in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, rose to 280.
In the Gyeonggi area, additional confirmed cases occurred at ▲ nursing home in Siheung City (cumulative 18), ▲ clothing factory in Ansan City (13), ▲ insurance company in Icheon City (13), ▲ Hyoplus Nursing Hospital in Bucheon City (72), and ▲ prayer center in Pocheon City (34).
