Seoul Facilities Corporation Prevents Safety Accidents at Nighttime Road Construction Sites
Installation of Excavator Proximity Prevention LED Safety Lines to Eliminate Driver Blind Spots for 'Distancing from Construction Equipment'... Introduction of Mobile Speed Warning Devices to Alert Speeding Vehicles for 'Distancing from Traffic Accidents'
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Seoul Facilities Corporation (Chairman Seong-il Jo) is implementing an improvement plan called ‘Safety Accident and Social Distancing’ to enhance safety at nighttime road construction sites, which are vulnerable to accidents.
Most small-scale nighttime construction sites in urban areas are narrow and dark, increasing the risk of collision accidents due to simultaneous operation of construction equipment and workers.
Also, due to the nature of nighttime roads where traffic volume is low, speeding vehicles can potentially cause serious accidents.
The newly introduced ‘Safety Accident and Social Distancing’ improvement plan at nighttime road construction sites aims to prevent accidents that may occur due to construction personnel and passing vehicles in advance.
The main features include the installation of ‘Excavator Approach Prevention LED Safety Lines’ and ‘Mobile Speed Warning Devices.’
First, the corporation will implement ‘distancing from construction equipment’ to prevent collision accidents between excavators and workers at nighttime road construction sites.
To this end, ‘Excavator Approach Prevention LED Safety Lines’ will be installed at construction sites. This equipment attaches LED lights to the blind spots (left, right, rear) of excavator operators, essential equipment at construction sites, and projects safety lines onto the road surface with light to guide approach prevention.
The corporation expects that the introduction of safety lines will have a significant effect in preventing industrial accidents caused by excavators.
Along with this, the corporation will also implement ‘traffic accident social distancing.’ For this purpose, ‘Mobile Speed Warning Devices’ will be introduced. These devices measure and display the speed of passing vehicles in real time, encouraging drivers to voluntarily reduce speed and drive safely during traffic control.
Using high-performance radar, if a vehicle passing in front of the construction site exceeds the speed limit, a warning sound is emitted through a speaker.
Additionally, the current driving speed is automatically flashed and warned. (Speed limit adjustments: 50, 60, 70, 80 [km/h])
The ‘Safety Accident and Social Distancing’ improvement plan for nighttime road construction sites has been pilot-installed at four nighttime road construction sites so far, including the streetlight upgrade construction site on Sinbanpo-ro.
The corporation plans to expand this to all small-scale nighttime construction sites conducted by the corporation by the first half of next year.
Also, to help citizens and construction personnel understand, the corporation produced an introduction video related to ‘Safety Accident and Social Distancing at Nighttime Road Construction Sites’ and released it on the Seoul Facilities Corporation YouTube channel on the same day.
Seong-il Jo, Chairman of Seoul Facilities Corporation, said, “We expect that the introduction of this improvement plan will significantly enhance the safety of small-scale nighttime construction sites,” and added, “Seoul Facilities Corporation will continue to do its best to improve inconveniences occurring at construction sites and ensure the safety of citizens and workers.”
