CJ Olive Young Ends 'Girl Education Supporters' Activities This Year
As Part of Supporting the Independence of Children Aging Out of Care
[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] Olive Young’s ‘Girl Education Supporters’ campaign to raise awareness about domestic youth aging out of care has officially concluded its activities.
CJ Olive Young announced on the 14th that it held the closing ceremony for the first cohort of Olive Young’s ‘Girl Education Supporters’ on the 12th, in collaboration with the social welfare foundation Children and Future Foundation.
Starting with an online launch ceremony in September, the Girl Education Supporters carried out various activities over four months to support the independence of youth aging out of care. According to the Child Welfare Act, youth must leave care facilities upon turning 18. Prejudices against these youth have become obstacles to their independence, highlighting the need for support for this overlooked group.
CJ Olive Young has intensified its support projects for youth aging out of care through collaboration with the Children and Future Foundation. As part of this, the Girl Education Supporters formed teams consisting of 16 university students and 4 youth aging out of care. They participated in various workshops, mentoring programs with headquarters employees, and created card news related to Olive Young’s social contribution activities. Based on mutual understanding developed during these activities, they produced videos to raise awareness about the issues faced by youth aging out of care and to change negative perceptions, concluding their activities with these efforts.
At the online closing ceremony for the first cohort of Girl Education Supporters held on the 12th, CJ Olive Young encouraged the supporters’ efforts by awarding certificates of completion and scholarships to all participants, and presented ‘Goodbye Boxes’ containing cosmetics. The event also included a screening of the awareness improvement videos and a sharing session reflecting on the supporters’ experiences.
Supporter Eunbin Hwang (23), who attended the ceremony, said, “Through activities with youth aging out of care as part of the Girl Education Supporters, I realized that they are not much different from others,” adding, “It was a meaningful time to develop a proper understanding of youth taking their first steps into society.”
A CJ Olive Young official stated, “Thanks to the fresh perspectives of university students who created relatable content, we were able to take a step closer to our goal of improving awareness about youth aging out of care,” and added, “Starting with the first cohort, we will continue to introduce new social contribution activities for marginalized groups in welfare blind spots.”
