Gangbuk-gu Mental Health Resident Education Group Comforts Residents' Depression
21 Members Selected for Mental Health Resident Education Group, Engaging in Suicide Prevention and Life Respect Culture Expansion in the Community... Activities Include Phone Check-ins and Distribution of Mental Health Surveys
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Gyeom-su) is operating a resident-led ‘Mind Health Resident Education Group.’
This project was prepared to prevent suicide through the proactive participation of residents and to spread a culture of respect for life within the community.
The selected Mind Health Resident Education Group consists of a total of 21 members. After receiving non-face-to-face capacity-building training and life guardian education, they will begin full-scale activities. Through the training, members will acquire knowledge about depression and suicide, learn how to approach people experiencing depressive feelings, and master effective communication skills.
The trainees plan to check in by phone on individuals at risk of suicide within the community to closely monitor their psychological state. They will also play a role in identifying high-risk groups by distributing mind health questionnaires. Identified high-risk individuals will be linked with the Gangbuk-gu Public Health Center’s Life Respect Team to receive active psychological support.
Additionally, members will share the mind health information gained through training with their neighbors and engage in suicide prevention promotional activities on YouTube channels and official SNS accounts.
