Pay December Regular Automobile Tax Between 16th and 31st
Gwangjin-gu Operates Annual Prepayment System for 2021 Vehicle Tax with Discounts in January 2021
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Seon-gap) is guiding residents to pay their regular December automobile tax on time.
Automobile tax is imposed twice a year in June and December on owners of vehicles as of the tax base date (June 1 and December 1 every year). The tax imposed this time covers the ownership period from July 1 to December 31 of this year.
If a new car was purchased or a used car was transferred in the second half of the year, tax is imposed only for the ownership period from the acquisition date to December 31. Also, residents who have paid the annual tax in a lump sum this year are exempt from this levy.
Payments can be made at all financial institutions, including banks and post offices, from the 16th to the 31st.
Additionally, payments can be made through the Seoul Metropolitan Government Local Tax Internet Payment System (ETAX), the Seoul tax payment app (STAX), simple payment apps (PAYCO, Naver Pay, Shinhan PayFAN, Kakao Pay), ARS phone service, credit cards, and dedicated account transfers.
Along with this, the district is also informing residents about the annual prepayment system that allows paying the 2021 automobile tax in a lump sum in January next year.
The automobile tax annual prepayment system offers a 10% discount on the tax amount if the tax, which is normally paid twice a year in June and December, is paid once in advance in January. If the vehicle is transferred or scrapped after prepayment, a refund will be processed for the remaining period.
Annual prepayment notices will be sent collectively to eligible taxpayers in January next year, and payments can be made by accessing the Seoul Local Tax Payment System (ETAX), credit card, or dedicated account transfer.
