Police Officer Who Fled DUI Checkpoint Suspended from Duty

On the 11th, the Gwangju Bukbu Police Station announced that they had suspended Lieutenant A, who fled the drunk driving checkpoint and is under investigation as a suspected drunk driver.
The Bukbu Police Station explained that Lieutenant A admitted to drinking with an acquaintance before fleeing the checkpoint, and was suspended to exclude him from duty. Disciplinary action against Lieutenant A will be decided after the ongoing investigation into the drunk driving charges is completed.
Lieutenant A fled the drunk driving checkpoint in Yangsan-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju, at around 10:30 p.m. on the 7th. Although Lieutenant A voluntarily appeared at the police station the next morning, about 10 hours later, and his blood alcohol concentration was measured at 0%, the police are investigating him as a suspected drunk driver.
