30s Arrested for Drunk Driving Fatality and Fleeing, Porsche Vehicle Seized
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] A man in his 30s who hit a motorcycle rider while driving under the influence and fled the scene has been arrested by the police.
The Jeonbuk Jeonju Wansan Police Station announced on the 11th that they have detained a man in his 30s, identified as A, on charges including hit-and-run causing death under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
A is accused of hitting a teenage boy, B, who was riding a motorcycle on a road in Hyoja-dong, Wansan-gu, Jeonju City, with his Porsche vehicle on the 26th of last month, then abandoning the car and fleeing the scene.
As a result of the accident, B suffered severe head injuries and died.
The police identified the driver based on the vehicle abandoned at the accident site and summoned A the next day to investigate the circumstances of the accident.
The police applied the 'Widmark' formula, which comprehensively considers blood alcohol content and physical characteristics, and concluded that A's blood alcohol concentration at the time of the accident was at a level warranting license cancellation, indicating intoxication.
Considering A's prior record of punishment for drunk driving, the police confiscated his vehicle.
