Gwangju Gwangsan-gu Holds Citizen Experience-Oriented Clean Air Industry Forum
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] On the 11th, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju City announced that it held the ‘Gwangsan-gu Citizen Experience-Oriented Clean Air Industry Promotion Forum’ with the Korea Air Industry Promotion Association at Iyagikkot Library.
The forum was conducted via online live streaming.
Attended by leading air industry companies in Gwangju, this forum was an opportunity to share the current status and policy trends of the air industry with experts, diagnose the air industry in Gwangsan-gu, and explore ways to link it with government policies.
Chaired by Professor Yang Seung-hak of Honam University, the forum opened with a keynote presentation titled ‘What is the Air Industry?’ by Kim Un-seop, Head of Policy Planning at Gwangju Technopark.
Bae Gwi-nam, Director of the Fine Dust Project Group at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology, presented on ‘Directions for the Development of the Air Industry and the Role of Industry-Academia-Government Collaboration,’ followed by a panel discussion on ‘Establishing a Cooperative System between Government and Local Governments for Air Industry Promotion.’
Kim Sam-ho, Mayor of Gwangsan-gu, stated, “With growing public interest in clean air due to fine dust and the COVID-19 crisis, cooperation between the government and local governments is essential for the success of the regional air industry. We will create an organic cooperative relationship so that Gwangsan-gu can lead the economy of Gwangju and South Korea based on the air industry.”

Last year, Gwangsan-gu was the only district among nationwide local governments to be selected for the National Balanced Development Committee’s ‘Regional Development Investment Agreement Pilot Project’ with a 18 billion KRW scale project titled ‘Improving Quality of Life through Air Purification Technology Development and Economic Life SOC Construction.’
