Deputy Prime Minister Hong Nam-gi Discusses Economic Policy Directions and COVID-19 Response with Overseas Staff from Major Countries
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyunjung] On the morning of the 11th, Hong Nam-ki, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, presided over a video conference with financial and economic officers from major countries and dispatched staff from international organizations (International Monetary Fund and World Bank) at the Government Complex Sejong. The financial and economic officers are dispatched to major embassies such as the United States and China, where they perform financial, economic, and fiscal cooperation tasks with the host country’s government and support the headquarters’ external affairs.
This meeting was held to share major countries’ COVID-19 policy responses for establishing the 2021 economic policy direction and to encourage dispatched staff working overseas amid the global spread of COVID-19.
The participants presented on the status of major countries’ economic policy implementation, including COVID-19 damage support measures, job creation plans, and mid- to long-term future policies such as carbon neutrality, as well as the 2021 economic outlook and trends by international organizations. Deputy Prime Minister Hong requested the dispatched staff to continuously discover and convey policy development status and success cases from their respective postings to help our economy overcome the unprecedented COVID-19 crisis.
