On-site Police Officers' Group Polnetiang, "Investigation and Prosecution Must Be Separated to Complete Prosecution Reform"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] As the power agency reform bill is being processed in the National Assembly plenary session, the on-site police officer community 'Polnetiang' issued a statement on the 10th saying, "Prosecutorial reform, which separates investigation and prosecution, must be completed as soon as possible."
In a statement released that day, Polnetiang said, "As part of the reform of national power agencies, the police are actively participating in reforms such as subdividing police power through the establishment of autonomous police and the National Investigation Headquarters to faithfully adhere to the principle of checks and balances and to check their own great evil (巨惡)." They added, "On the other hand, the prosecution, which holds overwhelmingly powerful authority unprecedented worldwide, is seriously damaging democracy through organizational selfishness and resistance and provocation to defend vested interests."
They continued, "The prosecutorial reform, carried out by the people's wishes, is not only facing collective and organized opposition but is also undermining the rule of law in our society and threatening even the basic principle of the separation of powers."

Meanwhile, Polnetiang urged the cessation of collective actions resisting prosecutorial reform, the establishment of a system where the police can investigate corrupt prosecutors, and the amendment of the Criminal Procedure Act to separate investigation and prosecution. They stated, "To complete prosecutorial reform, the Criminal Procedure Act must be revised again to separate investigation and prosecution, and constitutional amendments must be immediately discussed to abolish the prosecutor's exclusive right to request warrants, which is the fundamental cause of great evil."
