SK Telecom Develops Network Slicing Technology for Each App and Service
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] SK Telecom has succeeded in developing the world's first technology to apply network slicing by application and service, and demonstrated it on a 5G commercial network.
According to SK Telecom on the 10th, network slicing technology is a core 5G technology that separates and operates the 5G network into multiple virtual networks. By applying this technology, it is possible to link different networks according to the characteristics of each application and service within a single device, enabling fast and stable customized services. It can be used for security where stable data control is important, game partnerships requiring real-time streaming without delay, and enterprise-specialized services.
SK Telecom completed commercial network testing last January and applied optimal network allocation technology within the device through additional development. Network slicing linkage supports up to eight simultaneous connections. SK Telecom plans to apply network slicing technology to base stations through further upgrades. This will enable customized network services across the entire section from 'device-base station-core network.'
In particular, as the government recently reviewed measures to allow network slicing for special purposes, the advancement of network slicing that can stably provide both special services and general data services is expected to become even more important.
