Kukpyowon Orders Recall for 66 Products Including Electric Blankets and Heated Mats
Announcement of Safety Investigation Results for 1,192 Winter Products
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The National Institute of Technology and Standards under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 10th that it has ordered the recall of 66 products, including electric blankets, heated mats, and children's furniture for winter use.
The institute stated that it conducted safety inspections on 1,192 products such as heating appliances and children's products from October to November.
Among the 326 products found to be non-compliant, 66 products (26 electric appliances, 6 daily necessities, and 34 children's products) were ordered to be recalled, while 260 products received recommendations.
The 66 products subject to recall orders seriously violated safety standards such as harmful chemicals and temperature rise, and measures such as recall orders and cancellation of KC certification were taken.
The 260 products that violated standards such as maximum speed (major defects), KC marking, age of use, and mandatory product labeling like precautions were recommended for recall.

Lee Seung-woo, head of the National Institute of Technology and Standards, said, "As the COVID-19 pandemic prolongs, demand for non-face-to-face consumption centered on online malls vulnerable to the distribution of illegal and hazardous products is rapidly increasing," adding, "Next year's safety inspections will strengthen monitoring activities in the online distribution market."
