According to local sources on the 8th, Son was found dead on the morning of the 4th of this month in a hotel room in Angeles City, Pampanga Province, northern Philippines. A note expressing despair over his situation was reportedly found at the scene.
The local Korean association contacted the police after being notified by the hotel, and requested identity verification from the Korean Embassy, which ultimately confirmed Son’s identity. The local police judged that Son had taken his own life, considering there were no signs of foul play and a note was found.
Son had held a press conference in February last year, raising additional suspicions related to real estate speculation after allegations were made against his older sister, former lawmaker Son.
