Seongdong-gu Side Dish Store ‘Jini Chanbang Oksu Branch’ Launches Self-Support Project
Opening of 'Jini Chanbang Seongdong Oksu Branch' to Support Jobs for Vulnerable Groups in Cooperation with Companies... 8 Self-Support Workers Participating... Strengthening Employment and Entrepreneurship Skills through Corporate-Linked Support Including Technical Training and Operational Know-How
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongdong-gu (District Mayor) opened the doors of ‘Jini Chanbang Seongdong Oksu Branch’ on the 30th of last month in collaboration with the side dish specialty company ‘Jini Chanbang’ to support jobs for vulnerable groups.
The district and Seongdong Regional Self-Support Center (Center Director Lee Seon-hwa) have been continuously developing self-support business items through professional management consulting in cooperation with the Seoul Metropolitan Self-Support Center since August, not only to provide jobs for vulnerable workers but also to create employment opportunities through skill acquisition.
According to the analysis that a meal kit-type business combining in-store sales and delivery services is suitable for residential areas such as apartment complexes with a high proportion of residents in their 30s and 40s living with young children, the district promoted the opening of ‘Jini Chanbang Seongdong Oksu Branch’ in the Oksu-dong area, collaborating with the side dish specialty company ‘Jini Chanbang’ under these conditions.
The district recruited eight self-support workers to participate in this project and conducted training for skill acquisition and operational know-how through professional chefs in cooperation with the headquarters of ‘Jini Chanbang.’ After a one-week pilot operation from the 23rd of last month, full-scale business began on the 30th.
Currently, the product lineup includes about 108 types of side dishes, home meal replacements, and meal kit menus, and the business is aiming to generate profits by conducting both in-store sales and delivery services simultaneously. Excess products will be linked to social contribution activities by sharing them with low-income groups.
A district official said, “We promoted this project to overcome the technical and sales weaknesses of the self-support business group by implementing a corporate-linked self-support work project and to develop sustainable jobs. We aim to provide opportunities for low-income residents who want to become self-reliant through cooking and the food service industry to operate food service businesses, thereby offering possibilities for employment and startup as self-support enterprises.”
The eight self-support workers operate in three shifts, excluding Sundays and holidays, and to boost work motivation, all profits except operating expenses are distributed to the participants.
Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “The self-support project provides jobs to vulnerable workers, strengthening their work capabilities and literally giving them the opportunity to become self-reliant. We will continue to strengthen cooperation with private companies and social enterprises to fully focus on creating more specialized self-support jobs.”
