Dongshin University Students Draw Attention for Planning and Promoting Jeonnam Tourism Innovation Platform Expert Meeting
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Students majoring in Tourism Management at Dongshin University are drawing attention by directly planning and promoting an expert roundtable meeting to establish a growth platform for the tourism sector in the Jeonnam region.
According to Dongshin University on the 3rd, the ‘Dongshin Tourism’ team, consisting of five Tourism Management students, held the ‘1st Regional Tourism Innovation Platform Expert Roundtable’ on the 26th of last month at Naju 3917 Majung in Naju, Jeonnam.
The roundtable, conducted both online and offline, was attended by over 20 experts in the Jeonnam tourism sector, including Lim Seok, CEO of Gangjin Culture and Tourism Foundation; Jeong Hyun-jun, Director of Gangjin Jeonnam Music Creation Center; Professors Kim Young-mi and Moon Ju-ho of Dongshin University; and officials from Jeonnam Province and Naju City.
At the meeting, the experts agreed on the need to establish a regional tourism innovation network connecting the public, private, industrial, and academic sectors, and to expand a privately-led regional tourism innovation platform.
Through this, they decided to promote ▲linking and promoting inland tourism programs in Jeonnam ▲providing diverse information from member organizations using online and offline platforms ▲operating training programs to cultivate cultural tourism planning experts.
To achieve the outcomes of the roundtable, the ‘Dongshin Tourism’ team has been carrying out the ‘Jeonnam-type MICE Project’ since September with support from Dongshin University’s University Innovation Support Project Group.
In particular, to revitalize the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions) industry in Jeonnam, which has been stagnant due to COVID-19, they focused on discovering facilities where the unique culture and natural attractions of the region can be experienced and that also support video conferencing.
As a result, they identified ‘Suncheonman International Wetland Center’ in Suncheon, ‘National Jangseong Forest Experience Center’ in Jangseong, ‘Sorokdo Marianne and Margaret Sharing Training Center’ in Goheung where nature and stories coexist, and ‘3917 Majung,’ a traditional Hanok meeting facility located in Naju, laying the groundwork for the recent expert roundtable.
Going forward, they plan to produce videos of the facilities they discovered on YouTube and actively promote them through SNS and the websites of various organizations to contribute to the revitalization of the regional MICE industry.

I feel proud to have been able to directly plan and promote small-scale hybrid meetings both online and offline based on what I learned in class. I will continue to work hard to become an expert in the related field.”
