Driver's License Testing Center to Open in Gwangju
Assemblyman Lee Hyung-seok Secures 2 Billion Won for Detailed Design... Completion in 2023
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] A driver's license testing center will be established in Gwangju Metropolitan City.
Lee Hyung-seok, a member of the National Assembly (Democratic Party of Korea·Gwangju Buk-gu Eul), announced on the 3rd that 2 billion KRW for the detailed design of the new Gwangju Driver's License Testing Center was reflected in the 2021 budget approved at the plenary session of the National Assembly.
Currently, there are 27 driver's license testing centers in 15 cities and provinces nationwide, but Gwangju is the only city without a driver's license testing center. As a result, Gwangju citizens suffer great inconvenience as they have to go all the way to the Naju Driver's License Testing Center in Jeollanam-do, which has poor public transportation accessibility, to take various tests and inspections.
To minimize the inconvenience related to obtaining a driver's license experienced by residents in the Gwangju area and to alleviate unnecessary economic burdens, Assemblyman Lee selected the establishment of the Gwangju Driver's License Testing Center as his "No. 1 pledge" and made relentless efforts.
During the recent National Assembly Public Administration and Security Committee's audit, he emphasized the necessity of establishing the Gwangju Driver's License Testing Center by presenting objective figures to the National Police Agency, the Korea Road Traffic Authority, and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. He also gained consensus on the necessity and cooperation intentions for project promotion from government ministries.
To expedite the establishment of the Gwangju Driver's License Testing Center, Assemblyman Lee consulted with Gwangju City, the National Police Agency, and the Korea Road Traffic Authority on the project plan and budget preparation methods, then prepared a concrete project plan. He also met individually with members of the Public Administration and Security Committee and the Budget and Accounts Committee to explain the purpose of the project.
Assemblyman Lee said, "The project to establish the Gwangju Driver's License Testing Center, which requires a total project cost of 35 billion KRW, is scheduled to be completed in 2023. Once the driver's license testing center is established in Gwangju, the inconvenience of residents in the Gwangju area who had to go to Naju for license tests will be resolved."
Meanwhile, the 2021 budget also includes additional increases in the budget for projects related to the May 18 Democratic Movement.
