[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] The Korea Federation of SMEs (Chairman Kim Ki-moon) announced on the 3rd that it held the '4th Automobile Service Industry Committee' at the Korea Federation of SMEs in Yeouido. The committee was attended by heads of related cooperatives and federations such as maintenance businesses, parts sales businesses, and bumper repair businesses, and discussions were held on major proposals and current issues for SMEs in the automobile service industry.
Lee Hang-gu, a research fellow at the Korea Automotive Technology Institute, who gave the keynote presentation, presented trends in the future car industry, overseas automobile service industry response cases, and directions for the domestic industry under the theme of 'Response Strategies of the Automobile Maintenance Service Industry to Paradigm Changes in the Automobile Industry.' Considering the increase in electronic components due to the emergence of electric and autonomous vehicles and the current saturated competition in the maintenance industry, Lee pointed out that mid- to long-term structural adjustment in the automobile maintenance service industry is inevitable. Kim Dong-kyung, chairman of the Automobile Service Industry Committee of the Korea Federation of SMEs, said, "The trend toward the decarbonization of the automobile industry can also be seen in the recent strengthening of environmental regulations related to air emission facilities," adding, "The enormous cost burden caused by this, combined with the economic downturn due to COVID-19, is increasing the difficulties faced by the automobile service industry."
