National Hangeul Museum Publishes 'Easy-to-Read Hunminjeongeum'
Explain difficult words simply, and refine guides, help texts, and annotations into easy expressions
The National Hangeul Museum announced on the 30th that it has published an explanatory book titled Easy-to-Read Hunminjeongeum, designed to make the Hunminjeongeum Haeryebon easier to understand. The Hunminjeongeum Haeryebon is a book that contains the purpose and principles behind the creation of Hangeul. It is based on the Chinese phonological theory of phonology (聲韻學) and Neo-Confucian philosophy, making it somewhat difficult for the general public to comprehend. Accordingly, since 2017, the National Hangeul Museum has collaborated with scholars in Korean linguistics, classical Chinese literature, and Neo-Confucianism to work on translation, annotation, and foundational explanations related to the creation of Hunminjeongeum. Difficult words have been simplified, and guides, tips, and annotations have been refined into easy-to-understand expressions. Shim Dong-seop, director of the National Hangeul Museum, stated, "We hope this will provide an opportunity for the general public to easily understand the scientific and philosophical principles behind the creation of Hunminjeongeum and be widely used for domestic and international education and promotion of Hunminjeongeum." Easy-to-Read Hunminjeongeum can be downloaded for free from the museum’s website.
