"Please Maintain Indoor Temperature at 20℃ During Winter" Campaign Until February Next Year
Ministry of Industry: "GS Retail, Homeplus, BGF Retail, CJ CGV Participating"
"Aiming to Encourage Private Sector Participation... Contacting KT, LGU+, CJ Olive Young, Lotte Shopping"
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The government is launching a winter campaign to maintain an appropriate indoor temperature of 20℃ to encourage energy reduction among the public, in collaboration with public institutions and civic groups.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 30th that it plans to run the campaign from next month’s 1st until the end of February next year, together with the Korea Energy Agency and civic organizations.
This campaign was prepared to present more practical measures that resonate better with the public compared to previous energy-saving campaigns.
The ministry explained that it considered not only energy saving but also winter health and comfortable indoor environment conditions during the COVID-19 era. The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency has annually recommended an appropriate indoor temperature of 18 to 20℃ during winter.
The ministry stated that it will conduct various campaigns including nationwide citizen participation events with 12 civic groups such as the Korea Energy Agency and the Consumer Public Interest Network.
GS Retail (distribution and cosmetics), Homeplus and BGF Retail (distribution), and CJ CGV (culture) are participating in the campaign. These four companies will maintain 20℃ in over 30,060 stores nationwide this winter.
The four companies will actively promote to the public the importance of maintaining appropriate indoor temperatures, practicing energy saving, and responding to climate change by using digital signboards and other means inside their stores nationwide.
The ministry is also in contact with KT, LG Uplus (telecommunications), CJ Olive Young (cosmetics), and Lotte Shopping (apparel). The ministry plans to continuously expand the campaign by encouraging practical participation from the private sector.
