Gwangju Dong-gu Holds Forum on Strategies to Elevate “Chungjang Festival” to a Global Festival...
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Im Taek) announced on the 26th that it held a forum to prepare strategies for the global advancement of the Chungjang Festival.
The forum was conducted online and non-face-to-face, with only forum participants and planning committee members attending to prevent the resurgence of COVID-19.
On the day, under the moderation of Professor Ahn Tae-gi of Gwangju University, the forum was divided into two parts. In the first part, Professor Choi Dong-hee of Gwangju University presented on "Evaluation Contents and Major Tasks of the Chungjang Festival," and Jang Jin-man, General Director of the Hampyeong Butterfly Festival, gave a presentation titled "Content Suggestions for Advancing to a Global Festival."
In the second part of the forum, chaired by Professor Kim Hee-seung of Dongshin University, Professors Kim Byung-won of Mokpo National University, Son Hye-kyung of Jeonnam Science University, Lee Young, President of the Korea Leisure Recreation Jeonnam Branch, and Jeong Ki-young of Sehan University participated as discussants to debate the presentations.
Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, "This forum is an opportunity to explore ways for the Chungjang Festival to leap beyond being a representative Newtro urban festival of Korea to becoming a global festival," adding, "We will develop festival content suitable for the post-COVID era to create a Chungjang Festival that people around the world can enjoy together."

Meanwhile, although Dong-gu, Gwangju had to cancel the 17th Memory Chungjang Festival to prevent the spread of COVID-19, it is promoting various projects to support local cultural artists and secure festival competitiveness, such as developing 'memory' content, which is the core value of the festival, and operating an 'online supporters' program with local cultural artists.
