Gwangju University Department of Hotel and Culinary Arts Successfully Hosts 'Lee Kum Kee Cooking Competition'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Students from the Department of Hotel, Food and Culinary Arts at Gwangju University participated in a competition where they could fully showcase the cooking skills they learned at school.
Gwangju University announced on the 25th that recently, first-year students participated in the Lee Kum Kee Cooking Competition held in the practical training room of the Department of Hotel, Food and Culinary Arts, sponsored by the global sauce brand ‘Lee Kum Kee’.
In this competition, the students used Lee Kum Kee sauces to present various dishes that highlighted their own individuality, engaging in a heated contest.
The champion of the competition was student Kim Han-ul (1st year), with the gold medal awarded to Kang Nam-hyun (1st year) and the silver medal to Jo Jae-yoon (1st year).
Student Kim Han-ul will advance to the finals of the ‘14th Lee Kum Kee Cooking Competition’ and participate in an overseas training program in Hong Kong.
Professor Kim Heon-cheol of Gwangju University’s Department of Hotel, Food and Culinary Arts said, “Although the competition was scaled down due to COVID-19 and only first-year students participated, it was held with more passion than ever before,” adding, “We will prepare systematic educational programs to support students in achieving good results by participating in various cooking competitions.”

Meanwhile, the Department of Hotel, Food and Culinary Arts at Gwangju University has established itself as a cradle for nurturing talent by achieving excellent results in various competitions, including winning the grand prize and gold medal at the ‘2020 World Food Championship,’ the largest cooking competition in Korea, held last month at the Seoul aT Center.
