Rep. Lee Hyung-seok Urges Live Broadcast of Jeon Du-hwan's First Trial Sentencing
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Rep. Lee Hyung-seok (Democratic Party of Korea, Gwangju Buk-gu Eul) stated on the 24th that the trial of Jeon Du-hwan should be broadcast live.
Jeon is charged with defamation of the deceased Father Cho Bi-o and is scheduled for a first trial verdict on the 30th.
Rep. Lee said, "The first trial verdict of Jeon is a 'historical stage' where a legal judgment on whether helicopter shootings occurred, a core issue in uncovering the truth of the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement, will be made," adding, "The judiciary's judgment on Jeon, the ultimate person responsible for the May 18 massacre, will be a stern warning to those distorting the history of May 18 and a turning point in establishing historical justice."
He continued, "Even though there is no precedent for live broadcasting trials of defendants not in custody, only the trial of Jeon must be broadcast live to inform the entire nation," emphasizing this point.

Along with this, Rep. Lee stressed, "It has been three years and seven months since the trial of Jeon, which began with the publication of Jeon's memoirs in April 2017 describing the late Father Cho Bi-o, who testified about helicopter shootings during May 18, as a 'shameless liar,' and the subsequent lawsuit," adding, "We must punish Jeon, who continues to evade responsibility, and set historical justice straight."
