Guro-gu Issues Electronic Billboard Warnings for Speeding and Stop Line Violations
Voice Warnings for Jaywalking Pedestrians... Installation of 'LED Floor Traffic Lights' and 'Runway-Style Lighting'... 'Amazon', 'Yellow Carpet·Yellow Footprints' and Other Traffic Safety Facilities Developed in Child Protection Zones
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Seong) is strengthening children's pedestrian safety using smart technology.
On the 24th, Guro-gu announced, "To create a safe school route without traffic accidents, a 'Smart Crosswalk' has been newly installed on the road near Sindorim Elementary School (Sindorim-dong 316-6)."
The 'Smart Crosswalk' is a traffic safety facility that uses advanced technology to increase the attention of drivers and pedestrians to prevent traffic accidents.
On the roads around the Smart Crosswalk, a 'speeding and stop line violation guidance system' operates for safe driving. If there is a vehicle speeding or violating the stop line, the driver's attention is immediately drawn, and the image of the vehicle is displayed on an electronic board so that the driver can comply with regulations. Normally, it measures and displays the current driving speed to encourage steady driving.
The Smart Crosswalk is also equipped with a voice guidance device for pedestrian safety. If a pedestrian jaywalks or leaves the crosswalk, a warning voice is emitted.
Guro-gu has also created an 'LED floor traffic light' to prevent traffic accidents for those walking while looking at their smartphones. The LED floor traffic light displays the same color as the crosswalk traffic light on the ground to help pedestrians easily recognize the signal.
Additionally, to prevent nighttime traffic accidents, 'runway-type lighting' has been installed on both sides of the crosswalk on the ground, and a 'spotlight' that shines light to make pedestrians on the crosswalk more visible has also been newly installed.
A Guro-gu official said, "We plan to comprehensively review residents' responses to the 'Smart Crosswalk' and its effectiveness in preventing traffic accidents to decide whether to expand installations," and added, "We ask for residents' interest and consideration for children's safety zones to protect children's pedestrian safety."
Meanwhile, Guro-gu has been carrying out various projects to create safe school routes within children's protection zones. In 13 elementary schools including Gaebong Elementary and Gaemyeong Elementary, Guro-type specialized children's pedestrian streets have been created. In various children's protection zones, pedestrian waiting facilities such as 'Yellow Carpet' (34 locations) and 'Yellow Footprints' (10 locations) have been installed, and speeding and signal enforcement cameras (34 locations) have also been newly installed. Various facilities within the protection zones, such as traffic safety signs, road markings, safety fences, and speed bumps, are also being maintained.
Recently, the 'Yellow Traffic Light' project has been promoted to improve the visibility of traffic signals, replacing traffic lights at 22 locations including Oryunam Elementary School with yellow traffic lights.
