Gwangsan Fire Station in Gwangju Designates Yurim Village as a 'Fire-Free Safe Village'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju Gwangsan Fire Station (Chief Im Jongbok) announced on the 22nd that Yurim Village in Yugye-dong, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City has been designated as a ‘Fire-Free Safe Village.’
The Fire-Free Safe Village designation has been given since 2011 to natural villages located far from fire stations to improve fire prevention and initial response capabilities.
So far, 15 natural villages in the jurisdiction have been designated and operated as Fire-Free Safe Villages, providing 1,059 fire extinguishers and 1,581 fire alarms free of charge to 1,052 households.
Considering the spread of COVID-19 in the Gwangju area, only a minimal number of people participated in the designation ceremony, which included ▲attaching the Fire-Free Safe Village plaque ▲appointing the head of Yurim Village as an honorary firefighter ▲distributing 75 fire extinguishers and 150 residential fire alarms free of charge ▲and conducting joint residential gas inspections with Haeyang Energy Co., Ltd.

Kim Jeong-o, the appointed honorary firefighter and village head, said, “I am grateful to the fire station officials and residents who worked hard to create a Fire-Free Safe Village,” and added, “In keeping with the Fire-Free Safe Village status, I will do my best with the village residents to prevent fire accidents.”
