Yeosu City Council: "Now Is the Time to Focus on Revitalizing Marine Tourism"
Expert Panel Discussion Held to Explore Utilization Strategies for Marine Resources Including Marina
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] A proposal has emerged from the Yeosu City Council emphasizing the need to focus on leveraging Yeosu's abundant marine tourism resources as a "future growth engine" and exploring ways to revitalize marine tourism.
According to the Yeosu City Council (Chairman Jeon Chang-gon), on the 20th it was announced that an "Expert Invitation Forum for Establishing Measures to Revitalize Marine Tourism" was held at the Yeosu City Council on the 16th.
The forum was organized by the Marine Tourism Revitalization Research Group, a council member research organization, and was attended by about 20 people including council members Lee Mi-kyung, Kim Jong-gil, Lee Seon-hyo, Kang Jae-heon, and experts.
First, Professor Jeong Hee-seon of Cheongam College presented on topics such as "Tourism Infrastructure Linking the Southern Coast and Southern Central Region," "Yeosu's Marine Tourism through Marine Healing," and "The Future Landscape of Marine Tourism."
In the subsequent discussion, various measures to utilize Yeosu's marine tourism resources, including marinas and land-bridge/island-bridge connections, were discussed.
Council member Lee Mi-kyung suggested the need to install scenic lighting with stories on land-bridge and island-bridge connections, similar to the Busan Gwangandaegyo Bridge case, while council member Lee Seon-hyo emphasized the urgent need for customized projects utilizing the sea between Soho and Ungcheon, such as marina projects.
Council member Kang Jae-heon proposed that selection and concentration in tourism resource development are necessary and that preparations should be made in advance for Yeosu's ready marine tourism.
Council member Kim Jong-gil expressed the opinion that since land-bridge and island-bridge connections are world-class tourism products, it is necessary to create gardens and other attractions in the intermediate area of Gaedo to commercialize it as a tourism product.
