Korea-UAE Nuclear High-Level Consultative Meeting... "Discussion on Cooperation Including Barakah Nuclear Power Plant"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] South Korea and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) held the 3rd High-Level Nuclear Consultation via video conference on the 19th to discuss nuclear cooperation measures, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
At the meeting co-chaired by Lee Tae-ho, 2nd Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Al Mazrouei, UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, both sides agreed that active cooperation is key to leading the special strategic partnership between the two countries.
They also agreed to cooperate toward the common goal of the successful completion of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant and the deepening and development of nuclear cooperation.
Before the video conference, both sides reviewed the progress and plans of each project through consultations by three working groups: "Nuclear Power Plant Construction and Overseas Nuclear Power Projects," "Nuclear Research and Development," and "Nuclear Security and Nuclear Safety Regulation."
In particular, the "Nuclear Power Plant Construction and Overseas Nuclear Power Projects" working group selected 11 areas of cooperation between the two countries for joint entry into third-country nuclear power projects after feasibility studies and agreed to continue discussing specific cooperation models.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, "Through this meeting, it was confirmed that nuclear cooperation between the two countries is progressing smoothly despite the COVID-19 situation."
