POSCO Strengthens Employee Capabilities in the Digital Innovation Era with 'New Collar' Talent Development...
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] POSCO is embarking on full-scale efforts to nurture 'New Collar' talents who can respond to future changes and create new value.
In line with the global trend of digital transformation, POSCO has set the goal of nurturing future talents as 'New Collar' who improve work and create new value by utilizing IT new technologies, and is implementing the 'New Collar Level Certification System' for all employees.
POSCO's 'New Collar Level Certification System' classifies employees' IT competency levels into four levels and helps them utilize IT technology in their respective fields through level-specific education. The education content will be broadly operated from learning basic IT knowledge to programming using AI algorithms. The company plans to systematically nurture New Collar talents by integrating and subdividing various in-house AI and big data utilization training, ranging from basic data utilization education using e-learning to advanced courses such as the 'AI Utilization Expert Course.'
To increase participation and interest and establish a data-driven working method, POSCO also provides benefits to those who obtain level certification. Certified employees at each stage will receive promotion points, preferential selection for overseas assignments, and opportunities to study abroad for obtaining degrees in related fields.
Choi Jeong-woo, Chairman of POSCO, emphasized preparation for future industrial environment changes during a conversation with new employees last month, stating, "POSCO is now a steel company integrated with the 4th Industrial Revolution, and members must become New Collar talents who lead digital innovation by demonstrating creativity through collective intelligence and continuously create the value of coexistence."
Along with this, POSCO is strengthening job competencies through its in-house knowledge-sharing video platform 'PosTube' in line with the digital innovation era. 'PosTube' is an internal platform that allows veteran employees to pass on their field skills through short videos, preparing for rapid generational changes such as the retirement of highly skilled senior generations and the entry of the MZ generation. It enables immediate answers and has become a customized job bible especially at operation sites. The representative content <名匠Tube> was produced directly by 18 current and former masters who contributed to the company's development with world-class technology, passing on the understanding of basic operational principles and know-how accumulated over more than 30 years of work experience to juniors.
As of October this year, about 2,000 PosTube videos covering overall job areas such as safety, operation, maintenance, and office work have been produced, with cumulative views reaching approximately 170,000. 'PosTube' has a significant practical learning effect through easy understanding via videos, repetitive learning, and comparison with other plants' cases, leading to continuous increases in video production and usage.

Meanwhile, POSCO has been operating a professional qualification acquisition incentive system since 2003 to foster a company-wide learning atmosphere and enhance employees' job expertise. Incentives are provided based on job relevance and difficulty, classified from S-level (master technician) to B-level (industrial engineer). This year, through system improvements encouraging voluntary in-house learning, a total of 1,690 professional certificates were acquired as of the end of October, exceeding last year's total performance by 11%.
