[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] The much-anticipated memoir of former U.S. President Barack Obama, "A Promised Land," set record-breaking sales in just 24 hours in the United States and Canada alone. It is expected that Obama's memoir will even surpass the sales records of previous U.S. presidential memoirs.
According to the British daily The Guardian on the 19th (local time), 890,000 copies were sold, including pre-orders and e-books.
The publishing representative told The Guardian, "We were thrilled by the first-day sales," adding, "We believe this reflects readers' long-awaited anticipation for a book directly written by former President Obama."
Previously, Michelle Obama's memoir "Becoming" recorded 725,000 copies sold on its first day. Since its release in 2018, the book has sold 10 million copies worldwide.
Currently, "A Promised Land" ranks first in sales at both online and offline bookstores in the United States.

This 768-page book was released just two weeks after the U.S. presidential election, attracting significant attention. It includes content ranging from the Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare, to the operation that eliminated Osama bin Laden. The "A Promised Land" series consists of two volumes, and the recently published book is the first volume.
Former President Obama has previously sold millions of copies with his two books, "Dreams from My Father" and "The Audacity of Hope."
