Meeting with Director of Africa Division, Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs... Exchanging Views on Africa Support Status and Cooperation Directions
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 18th, Ko Kyung-seok, Director General of the Africa and Middle East Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held the 8th Korea-Japan Director-General Level Middle East Policy Consultation in Tokyo, Japan, with Takahashi Katsuhiko, Director General of the Middle East and Africa Bureau at the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, exchanging views on the Middle East policies of both countries and future prospects of the Middle East situation.
Both directors agreed that Korea and Japan share many understandings regarding Middle East issues, concurred that peace and stability in the region are directly linked to the stability of the international community as a whole, and decided to continue related communication and cooperation going forward.
Additionally, Director Ko took the opportunity of this visit to Japan to meet with Mori Mikio, Director of the Africa Department at the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, exchanging opinions on the impact of COVID-19 in Africa, the current status of support from both countries to Africa, and directions for Africa cooperation.
In particular, they evaluated the cooperation between both sides to support the departure and return of their nationals staying in Africa amid situations such as border closures by African countries due to the spread of COVID-19, and explored possible cooperation measures for the future.
