Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, Hosts Baedongshin Eodeung Art Festival Exhibition
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced that it will hold the '30th Bae Dong-shin Eodeung Art Festival' exhibition at Sochon Art Factory Cube Museum from the 20th to the 25th.
Marking its 30th anniversary this year, the Bae Dong-shin Eodeung Art Festival was established to commemorate Bae Dong-shin, a world-renowned watercolor master from the region, and to discover artistic talents.
Prior to this exhibition, the district received a total of 421 works in painting, calligraphy, and literati painting categories from September 23 to 25, selecting 227 pieces including 1 Grand Prize, 2 Excellence Awards, 6 Merit Awards, 10 Special Awards, 79 Special Selections, and 129 Selections.
Notably, despite the impact of COVID-19, this year's art festival received the highest number of submissions ever. The exhibition will display about 50 works including award-winning pieces and those by recommended and invited artists.
The Grand Prize, which is the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award, was awarded to artist Yang Soon-deok in the literati painting category, while the Excellence Awards, which are the Gwangju Metropolitan City Mayor Awards, were awarded to painter Park Woong-chan in the painting category and artist Seo Seon-jin in the calligraphy category.
The district plans to award prize money of 5 million won and 2 million won for the Grand Prize and Excellence Awards respectively, and will also provide separate opportunities for solo exhibitions.
