Taiwan, the Chinese Communist Party's Malicious Actions... Will Lead to Opposite Results
Chinese Media: Using Own Cards for Unification, Taiwan is Merely a Pawn of the US Pawnshop
[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Jo Young-shin] Taiwan authorities are strongly opposing after it was revealed that China plans to put pro-independence figures such as Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen on a blacklist.
According to Taiwan Central News Agency on the 19th, Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council issued a statement the previous night expressing "opposition to the Chinese Communist Party's malicious actions," criticizing that "the authoritarian regime across the sea (China) constantly threatens and forces compromise on those with differing opinions through military force and coercive legal tools."
The Mainland Affairs Council stated, "Beijing authorities bringing up such extreme agendas destroys peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait," adding, "This harms the welfare and interests of the people on both sides of the strait and will ultimately be futile, resulting in outcomes opposite to their intentions."
The Mainland Affairs Council also said, "The Republic of China is a free democratic country, and the people of Taiwan have a strong sense of self and will not back down in the face of threats," adding, "The Chinese Communist Party should respect the will of the Taiwanese people and resolve political disputes through substantive dialogue."
Earlier, the pro-China Hong Kong newspaper Ta Kung Pao reported on the 15th, citing authoritative sources, that China's Taiwan affairs department is compiling a blacklist to control separatists who desire Taiwan independence.
Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council of China, confirmed the report as essentially true during a briefing the previous day. Spokesperson Zhu said, "The acts of a very small number of 'Taiwan independence' elements openly challenging national sovereignty and territorial integrity are absolutely unacceptable," and added, "We will legally target them and their major supporters, including financial backers."
Experts say the blacklist is a strong warning to Taiwan, which is closely aligned with the United States and involved in military tensions with China.
In this regard, China's state-run Global Times evaluated, "This is an expression of confidence that mainland China will actively respond to changing circumstances and realize national reunification, and that it has begun to use its own cards for unification."
