LH Joins Hands with 8 Local Governments Including Gyeongju and Namhae to Promote 'Senior Welfare Housing'
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) announced that it signed a "Business Agreement for the Joint Promotion of Welfare Housing for the Elderly" with eight local governments nationwide, including Gyeongju City in Gyeongbuk Province and Namhae County in Gyeongnam Province, on the 18th at the Plaza Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul, and will actively promote the project.
Welfare housing for the elderly is public rental housing designed to help low-income seniors aged 65 and over conveniently access housing and welfare services. It applies housing designs tailored to age characteristics, such as floor threshold removal and safety handrails, and also provides welfare services like health care and cultural activities.
This agreement was prepared to define the roles and cost-sharing among institutions for promoting the welfare housing project for the elderly, together with local governments selected through the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's public contest in May. Participants include Gyeongju City in Gyeongbuk Province, Namhae County in Gyeongnam Province, Suseong District in Daegu, Donghae City in Gangwon Province, Ulsan, Paju and Pyeongtaek Cities in Gyeonggi Province, and Jeju.
According to the agreement, LH will be responsible for the design, construction, and post-completion operation and management of the welfare housing for the elderly. Each local government will cooperate by providing project sites, installing welfare facilities, and managing operations.
To actively respond to rapid aging, LH plans to expand the welfare housing project for the elderly by collaborating with various entities in the health, medical, and welfare sectors. Starting this year, services will be enhanced by adding home care services such as nursing and caregiving to the existing leisure and cultural activity-centered services.

Byun Changhoom, President of LH, said, "Through the Welfare Housing for the Elderly 2.0 project, which links nursing and caregiving, we will continuously work with local governments so that seniors who have difficulty living and moving can spend their old age healthily in their residences rather than in facilities such as nursing hospitals."
