Shin Dong-geun: "The Recommendation of the Chief of the Corruption Investigation Office is Going Awry... If No Candidate is Recommended, We Have No Choice but to Submit a Bill"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] On the 18th, as the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Office (PCC) Candidate Recommendation Committee held its third meeting to recommend candidates, Shin Dong-geun, a Supreme Council member of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated, "As expected, the recommendation process is heading towards a deadlock," and announced that if no recommendation is made by the deadline set by the Democratic Party, they will propose an amendment to nullify the opposition party's veto power.
In an interview on KBS Radio's 'Kim Kyung-rae's Strongest Current Affairs' that morning, Supreme Council member Shin criticized, "The People Power Party has stalled the process so far," and added, "They recommended a person who said the PCC should never be born as a recommendation committee member, so having someone who opposes the PCC recommend the PCC chief is essentially a logical contradiction."
He said, "We have waited with patience and perseverance, but we can no longer wait. The public is also feeling fatigued as the prosecution reform issue has continued for over a year," and emphasized, "To pass the PCC Act amendment within the regular session of the National Assembly, the bill must be submitted through the subcommittees and the full standing committee."
Regarding People Power Party floor leader Joo Ho-young's proposal to designate the PCC chief and the Special Inspector simultaneously, he evaluated it as "an out-of-the-blue story." Supreme Council member Shin said, "It is just an excuse to delay the launch of the PCC."
On Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon's remarks about Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol's position, he said, "He must have said that out of desperation," and stated, "The essence of the conflict between Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae and Prosecutor General Yoon is ultimately resistance to prosecution reform." He also added, "We will complete the launch of the PCC within December. Thus, we will move toward early completion of prosecution reform."

Regarding the People Power Party's push to establish a new crime of power-type judicial obstruction targeting Minister Choo, he raised his voice, calling it "an all-powerful political prosecution protection law," and said, "The prosecution is the only place that remains as the last sanctuary of unchecked power without being elected. The only democratic control is the investigative command right, but if that is abolished, it means strengthening the prosecution even more."
