[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 16th that it will hold the ‘International Optical Convergence Industry Exhibition’ as a non-face-to-face online export (video) consultation from the 19th to the 27th, in collaboration with the Korea Photonics Industry Promotion Association.

Considering the difficult external conditions worldwide due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, a customized business matching system has been introduced through an official non-face-to-face online platform, allowing overseas buyers to search for consultation targets and apply for consultations, enabling strategic consultations. The plan is to actively support local startups and small and medium-sized enterprises that are experiencing many difficulties in overseas marketing and exports.

Since July, 24 overseas marketing centers located in the United States, Germany, Japan, Vietnam, and other countries have been utilized to discover about 141 overseas buyers, and about 118 local companies have applied to participate in the online export consultation.

The Korea Photonics Industry Promotion Association operates a comprehensive non-face-to-face online consultation control room to assist consultation matching between domestic companies and overseas buyers.

The consultation aims to conclude purchase contracts worth more than 40 billion KRW for optical convergence industry products, and even after the event period, the control room will be operated year-round to actively strive to secure export channels for optical convergence companies.

Additionally, to promote local companies’ information and excellent products, a total of nine joint pavilions will be operated, including new technology and excellent products, optical convergence sector-specific joint pavilions, LiDAR commercialization technology support, global distribution roadshows for optical convergence products, and joint pavilions of institutions supporting the optical convergence industry development, showcasing various products and new technologies of optical convergence companies.

Along with this, an online seminar for general visitors and optical convergence industry workers will be held on reputation-based optical waveguide platforms and LiDAR industry development strategy technology exchange, providing essential information necessary for technology development and overseas market entry, such as technology development and market trends in the optical communication field, principles of LiDAR sensors, and theoretical presentation of technology trends.

Last year’s International Optical Industry Exhibition achieved results with 106 companies participating in 156 booths, export consultation amounting to 192 billion KRW, and export contracts worth 42.9 billion KRW through various exhibition programs.

Lee Chi-seon, Director of the Future Industry Policy Division of the city, said, “This year’s International Optical Convergence Industry Exhibition ‘Online Export Consultation’ will break down export barriers and create a new paradigm actively responding to the post-COVID-19 era,” adding, “We will continue to actively support various policies to pioneer export channels for local optical convergence companies.”
