Chayoungsoo, Jeonnam Provincial Assembly Member, "Local Road Maintenance Project Budget Far from Sufficient"
Assemblyman Cha Orders Budget Securing for Local Road Maintenance Project and Establishment of Department Overseeing Maritime Bridges
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Concerns have been raised during an administrative audit that the budget for local road maintenance projects implemented by Jeonnam Province is grossly insufficient, highlighting an urgent need for measures to secure funding.
On the 13th, Cha Youngsoo, a member of the Safety, Construction, and Firefighting Committee of the Jeonnam Provincial Council, announced that during the administrative audit held on the 12th under the jurisdiction of the Construction and Transportation Bureau, he requested securing the budget for local road maintenance projects and the establishment of a general department for maritime bridge management.
Assemblyman Cha stated, “Although the budget required for future local road maintenance projects amounts to approximately 5.29 trillion KRW, the budget allocated this year for local road maintenance projects is less than 100 billion KRW,” adding, “Considering that the annual required budget is 150 billion KRW, this is grossly insufficient, and the fact that it has not significantly changed from the 97 billion KRW budget ten years ago is a matter that requires serious reflection.”
He continued, “In the case of nationally supported local road projects, 2.0357 trillion KRW has been invested up to this year, with seven districts currently underway,” and urged, “I hope that plans for undeveloped areas will also proceed without any setbacks.”
He also advised, “As the number of islands connected to the mainland by land-bridge bridges increases, the demand for management and maintenance is rising,” and suggested, “Instead of entrusting the work solely to the road business office, a general department dedicated to the management and maintenance of maritime bridges should be established.”
Meanwhile, the nationally supported local road projects are planned to be implemented by 2027, covering a total of seven routes, 39 districts, and 329.6 km, with a budget of 3.2234 trillion KRW, of which 2.0357 trillion KRW has been invested so far.
