Chinese Media: "US, the Country Run by Biden but Belongs to Trump"
Trump's Political Legacy... Causing Division and Turmoil in US Society
Trump, Who Won 72 Million Votes, May Form a New Party to Run in 2024
[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Jo Young-shin] China's state-run Global Times reported that former U.S. President Donald Trump's political legacy could further divide American society.
It also reported that Trump may run in the 2024 U.S. presidential election and could establish a new party to secure his victory.
On the 13th, Global Times published an article titled "Trump's Country Run by Biden," predicting that President-elect Joe Biden will face difficulties in implementing policies such as pandemic control, economic recovery, racial discrimination, and healthcare.
Global Times stated that Trump's political legacy has led to a more conservative American society, with U.S. citizens facing a political polarization crisis.
It also reported that Trump, who received 72 million votes in the recent election, may prepare to run again in 2024 after conceding defeat.
Diao Daming, a professor at Renmin University of China, said, "Even if President Trump concedes defeat, he can still hold on to 72 million votes," and predicted, "72 million voters will vote again for Trump and the Republican Party in the 2024 presidential election."
Shen Yi, an expert on U.S. politics at Fudan University in Shanghai, said, "72 million votes is not a minority," adding, "President Trump believes he has the support of the majority."
The problem, Global Times pointed out, is the competition with Republican candidates who will run in the 2024 election.
Professor Diao forecasted, "Republicans such as Vice President Mike Pence, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and Tom Cotton may enter the primaries," adding, "This will pose a threat to President Trump."
Global Times predicted that if Trump runs again in 2024, he may run as an independent candidate and could create a new party for this purpose.
Global Times explained that there is a similar historical precedent. After President Theodore Roosevelt stepped down in 1909, he wanted to run as the Republican presidential candidate in 1912 but was not nominated. He then formed a new party, causing a split in the Republican Party. Trump may follow a similar path in 2024.
Global Times forecasted that while President-elect Biden will try to heal the divided American society, he will face challenges from over 72 million U.S. voters.
Lu Xiang, a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said, "During Trump's four years in office, unscientific sentiments prevailed, and even religion tended to become politicized," adding, "It is doubtful whether President-elect Biden can change this atmosphere in the next four years."
