Finalizing the Deployment of K9 Self-Propelled Howitzers in Combat
[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter]The deployment of the K9 self-propelled howitzer, the main weapon of the Republic of Korea Armed Forces' firepower, has been completed after 20 years.
According to the military on the 13th, the K9 self-propelled howitzer was independently developed in 1998 with domestic technology by Hanwha Land Systems and the Agency for Defense Development (ADD). It is a 52-caliber self-propelled howitzer that has been deployed domestically in combat since 2000.
It maximizes firepower effectiveness by implementing a simultaneous impact (TOT) firing function, which fires multiple rounds from a single gun to hit the target simultaneously.
The development of the 52-caliber self-propelled howitzer was the second in the world after Germany. The caliber length, which is the barrel length divided by the caliber, increases as the barrel lengthens, thereby extending the firing range.
