GS announced on the 12th that it has carried out executive appointments for 30 people for the year 2021. These executive appointments will be finalized after going through the board of directors of each affiliate.
This round of executive appointments focused on responding to the 'with COVID-19' era and promptly executing the blueprint for future new businesses. Since there were relatively large promotions and personnel changes last year, this year's appointments avoided drastic changes, maintaining organic harmony and stability among organizations, and boldly appointed external talents whose expertise has been verified in various fields such as new business experience, venture investment, and M&A. This is a key feature of this executive appointment.
In this appointment, Do Jeong-hae, Executive Director (54) and COO of GS Entec, a subsidiary of GS Global, was promoted to Vice President and will take charge as CEO. Yoo Jae-young, Executive Director (53) and Head of Finance at GS Caltex, and Oh Jin-seok, Executive Director (54) and Head of Strategy at GS Retail, were each promoted to Vice President. Yeo Eun-joo, Vice President of GS Corporation, will concurrently serve as Head of GS Public Relations and CEO of GS Sports.
Additionally, Choi Byung-min, Heo Cheol-hong of GS Caltex, Lee Gyu-bok, Kim Young-wook, Kim Young-shin, and Yoo Hyun-jong of GS Construction were each promoted to Executive Director.
In particular, GS is recruiting talented individuals regardless of gender or age to quickly execute initiatives in order to preoccupy future markets in line with the New Normal trend brought about by the prolonged COVID-19 situation. To actively lead new businesses, GS has brought in three external talents verified to have entrepreneurial experience and digital capabilities across various fields: Kim Sung-won (50), Vice President and Head of Energy Resources Business Division at GS Energy; Shin Sang-chul (53), Vice President and Head of New Business Support Group at GS Construction; and Park Sol-ip (49), Executive Director and Head of Management Strategy Division at GS Home Shopping, aiming to drive future new growth.
A GS official stated, "From the perspective of GS's organizational structure, systems, and culture, we actively selected external talents with expertise and digital capabilities, focusing on establishing an agile organizational structure that can quickly respond to rapidly changing external environments. We aimed to build a personnel system that enables dynamic innovation based on open innovation activities centered on flat communication and a digital organizational culture that values big data-based decision-making."
