[National Tax Statistics 2nd Release] Cash Receipt Issuance Amount 119 Trillion Won... Accounts for 6.2% of GDP
Retail Industry Leads at 57.0%... Restaurants at 6.3%
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] The total amount of cash receipts issued to domestic consumers last year was estimated to be 119 trillion won. By business type, retail issued the most.
The National Tax Service (NTS) disclosed this information as part of the second early release of national tax statistics on the 12th.
The NTS provides statistics that can be produced throughout the year in advance for prompt use of related information before publishing the annual National Tax Statistical Yearbook in December.
This release includes a total of 86 statistical tables, such as the tracking investigation results of high-amount tax delinquents' assets. In July, 95 statistical tables were released in the first phase. The total of 181 statistical tables released early this year increased by 11 compared to last year's early release (170 tables).
By category (item), there are 20 corporate tax tables, 16 value-added tax tables, 11 consumption tax tables, 8 electronic tax source tables, 8 international tax tables, 5 general (collection) tables, 5 tax audit tables, 4 inheritance and gift tax tables, 4 appeal tables, 2 electronic filing tables, and 3 student loan repayment tables.
The statistical tables can be viewed on the National Tax Statistics website, the NTS website, and the National Statistical Portal (KOSIS).
Last year, the amount of cash receipts issued was 118.5762 trillion won, accounting for 6.2% of the country's gross domestic product (GDP) for the same year.
During the same period, the number of cash receipt issuances was 4.5 billion (an average of 87 per person), with an average amount per issuance of 26,000 won. The number of issuances by amount showed that those under 5,000 won accounted for the largest share at 47.4%.
By business type, the number of issuances was ranked as follows: retail (57.0%), food service (6.3%), clinics and hospitals (1.9%), service industry (1.8%), and lodging (0.3%).

An NTS official said, "We will continue to increase the number of early-released national tax statistics reflecting the demand for their use, and strive to discover and disclose more diverse and new statistics that help citizens' daily lives and tax policy research."
